Safeguarding

Safeguarding Statement:

At Marlborough School the health, safety and well-being of every child is our top priority. The school take seriously its responsibility to safeguard and promote the welfare of students and works together with other agencies to identify, assess and support children who are, or may be suffering harm.

We expect all staff, including temporary staff, volunteers and governors to share this commitment to safeguarding our pupils and to ensure that our student’s welfare is our paramount concern.

Marlborough School is a secondary special school which caters for students with severe, complex and physical learning difficulties. We recognise that children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities can face additional safeguarding challenges because difficulties may arise in overcoming communication barriers. There may also be assumptions that indicators of possible abuse, such as behaviour, mood and injury relate to the child’s disability without further exploration. We are also aware that children with SEN can be disproportionally impacted by issues such as bullying without outwardly showing any signs.

At Marlborough School we ensure that our pupil’s safety is a priority by providing regular training to staff on specific issues of safeguarding children and young people with SEND and by also ensuring strong pastoral systems are in place. We work in close partnership with students, parents and carers and with multi-agency professionals, especially Children’s Services.

We support our student’s development in ways that will foster security, confidence and independence. We provide an environment in which children and young people feel safe, secure, valued and respected.
