Made By Marlborough
Marlborough joined Young Enterprise in September 2018. Young Enterprise is a charity, which aims to support young people to succeed in the world of work by equipping them with the work skills and confidence to succeed through enterprise projects. Through Young Enterprise, the students have developed their own company: Made by Marlborough.
Since 2018, Made by Marlborough has evolved and students have developed a range of unique items to be sold to the public. Items have included tote bags, make up bags, toiletry bags, cards, wrapping paper and gifts tags all with their own unique prints developed around pertinent themes such as rainbows to celebrate our NHS and their hard work during the COVID pandemic.
Students in our Legacy Pathway are supported to research, design and print their motifs to create their products. They have also researched pricing and organised packaging. Students are supported to be involved in every step of the process as far as possible, to give them an in depth experience of the world of work. They have had opportunities to sell their products at school events, as well as larger community locations such as Spitalfields and Greenwich Markets. Here they get the unique opportunity to practise their money handling skills hands on, in a real life situation. They also take responsibility for displaying their own products and developing their communication skills while conversing with customers. Their profits go back into the enterprise budget ready to be spent on new stock and equipment.
Furthermore, Enterprise Weeks are popular across the Marlborough School community. Students from all pathways are supported to take part in events celebrating enterprise skills and to design and print their motifs around a theme.
